The L27/38 from MAN B&W Alpha Diesel brings the innovation of MAN B&W's new generation of marine diesel engines to propulsion. It is an 800rpm medium-speed main engine with high output, low maintenance requirements and exceptional operating economy.

The shortest possible propulsion system has been achieved by optimizing the combination of engine, flexible coupling and gearbox.

Cooling water pumps,lub.oil pump, thermostatic valves, automatic lub.oil filter and lub.oil plate cooler in a closed circuit are located in a front-end box, resulting in a pipeless engine design. The benefits are easy access and maintenance.

The removal and mounting of the cylinder head, piston with con-rod and cylinder liner-is quick and easy. And only a very low overhaul height is required.

Every part of the L27/38 has been designed for space-saving effciency.The turbocharger is located low on the engine's aft-end, above the compact gearbox and coupling flange.

The L27/38 meets the IMO NOx emission limits.
