The L21/31 engine covers the power range between the L16/24 and L27/38 engine, 950-1800kw. The engine, is based on the same innovative, streamlined concept as the L16/24 and L27/38; reduced size and weight, modular construction; a simplified pipeless design, fewer components, a reduced maintenance requirement, high power, low noise, economic operation and low emissions. Robustly engineered for reliable, long TBO service, it hides a wealth of advanced technology beneath its smooth, uncluttered exterior. Its support systems permit an integrated approach to fuel oil supply and cooling water and starting-air systems. The benefits are lower initial cost and simpler operation and maintenance. |

Compact size The L21/31 is lower and shorter than the other long-stroke engines in its power class. It can be installed in restricted engine-room areas. Low bearing wear The connecting rods are of the marine head type and designed for low-pressure operation, resulting in lower wear and a longer life for bearing. Front-end concept All support fuctions-oil and water pumps, coolers, filters, and safety and regulator valve-are housed in a single front-end box for easy access and maintenance. |

Operation on HFO The L21/31 range operates efficiently on inexpensive HFO across the whole power spectrum. It has a high output but low lub. oil and fuel oil consumption. Low maintenance Designed for 20000-25000 service hours between overhauls, the L21/31 requires only minimal daily maintenance. Each complete cylinder assembly can be removed as a unit for maintenance or replacement, without requiring a large overhaul height. Environmentally friendly The L21/31 meets future IMO NOx emission limits. |

Optimal operating temperature The engine has an intergrated cooling-water system that ensures an optimal operating temperature across the range, from idle to full load. In addition, the charge-air cooler is equipped with a water-mist catcher that reduces the amount of condensation in the cooler. Lambda controller A lambda controller ensures that all injected fuel is burnt, countering internal engine pollution and the increased wear that might otherwise arise from step-loading. |
